I began my surveying career in 1994 as a rod man knowing
absolutely nothing about the surveying profession. It did not take
long before I knew that “this” is what I wanted to be not just what
I wanted to do. I graduated from Southern Polytechnic State
University (now Kennesaw State University) in Marietta, GA with a
degree in Surveying and Mapping in 1999. After licensure in the
state of Georgia in 2004, I started Hand Land Surveying Company in
2005.
Around 2007 and taking a sabbatical from Hand Land Surveying
Company, I had the opportunity to work with eGPS Solutions in sales
& support during the early stages of their real time network build
in Georgia and Florida. Taking on this role better equipped me with
understanding the where, when and how to use RTK equipment. Many
thanks to Jeff Little and Lonnie Sears for sharing their knowledge.
Some time in 2009, I was back full time with Hand Land Surveying
Company. Over the next decade, my workflow consisted of setting
control with a GNSS rover using eGPS Solutions RTN and traversing
with a robotic total station to perform the field work associated
with my boundary survey projects. Around 2017, I began reading
various forum message boards and survey magazine articles discussing
Javad GNSS capabilities to survey in canopy. This was not possible I
said to myself and I was very skeptical. Yet out of curiosity, I
called Adam Plumley, registered surveyor in North Carolina and sales
agent with Javad GNSS about a demo.
Long story short…I purchased a system and it forever changed the
game for me. GNSS was now a tool I could use in places once said to
be impossible. I was so impressed that I took on the role as a sales
agent of Javad GNSS Survey equipment. I wanted to share with
everyone how you can perform boundary survey work completely full
GNSS….no total station.
Most recently we have tested other products, namely CHCNAV, using
LandStar software and just when I thought I couldn’t be more
impressed here comes iGage and Mark Silver to the rescue. Game
changer again and affordable. What a combination! LandStar’s
verified survey routine gives us the assurance the solution is
correct in heavy canopy.
In my free time, I love hunting, fishing, watching college
football and attending church. |
